This past weekend a few friends of mine invited me to stay over at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with them in Waikiki. Guess what I said? Yes of course!! Who could say no to an awesome offer like that?!

Our floor was on the 33rd floor, so we had the perfect view over the beach and town areas. We were able to have dinner at my favorite Japanese BBQ restaurant, Gyukaku, in Waikiki. If you haven’t tried it, you should. It’s a yakiniku restaurant, so be prepared to cook the food yourself.

Unfortunately our stay was short-lived, because we only stayed for one night. But what a relaxing night it was.

After we checked out, I drove us to Cheeseburger Waikiki and we met up with another one of our good friends. None of us had ever been there, all we knew was that we were in the mood for burgers and it was close! Haha, college kids have little patience when hungry.

Well let me tell you, those burgers were awesome. I ordered the Black-N-Blue Burger, a burger topped with blue cheese and bacon. If you love blue cheese (and I LOVE blue cheese) then you’ll definitely be satisfied with this one. We also shared onion rings and seasoned fries; when they saw it feeds the whole table, they mean it! We had plenty leftover and we were stuffed!

Saturday was a busy day for me because after we finished eating, I had to go to Relay for Life at the University of Hawaii at Manoa! Relay for Life is an all night (7pm-7am) event put on by the American Cancer Society. This event promotes cancer awareness and helps fundraise for the American Cancer Society. I went with my business club, SIFE, and we were able to fundraise $833! We had tons of fun and I got to hang out with some of my Manoa friends that I haven’t seen in a long time :)

I realize this is a long one and if you read the whole post, thanks! I know it’s hard to keep up with me sometimes, but I’m doing my best to keep you all updated! I’ll have more photos posted of the wedding I did in March soon. Promise :)

Long time coming.

Hey guys! I’m terrible at keeping up with this blog. Life has been so crazy these last couple of months.

Shot my first wedding, pregnancy announcement photos, couple photos, model test shoots, school and regular work.

I’m tired thinking about all of it, but I’m excited to release all of the photos here.

I’m also thinking of starting a new project. I saw another photographer, Adam Dillon, do this on his blog. Where at the end of every month, I’ll have sort of a vlog to show all the stuff that’s happened throughout the month! This month is the first month, so I hope to have something for you guys soon!

In the meantime, be blessed :)

Levi x Kiya 02.15.13

This must be the weekend of blogging for me! I’m almost there! Unfortunately it seems that I post things about a week after they’ve happened… Oops.. haha! I swear, they’re all coming!

Anyways, I’m so pleased to finally be posting these photos! They’ve been a long time coming. A small back story to these photos is that Levi, Kiya, and myself are all friends! (Wow, there’s a lot of exclamation marks in this post!!! Ok, I’m done..) I’ve known Kiya since high school and Levi since I started college. We’ve talked about shooting with each other for a long time. Probably almost a year. Now since Levi is actually leaving very shortly to go study abroad in Japan and Kiya is going to enlist in the army!! Pretty crazy right?! Of course now that we knew it might be an even longer time for us to hang out again, we knew it was now or never for this shoot.

I was certainly not disappointed. Kiya may be a newbie model, but she could absolutely go far and Levi is a great shooter himself! I’m so happy for both of them and wish them well on their new ventures in life. Until our next shoot, I’ll be loving these photos :)

Tyler 02.08.13

I apologize! The blog has been slow recently, but I’m trying to catch up this weekend. This weekend I’m starting with my shoot with Tyler a few weeks ago.

I was finally able to go through and edit these photos. This was the first time I’ve ever shot with Tyler, shot in Chinatown, and shot a male model period. That’s a lot of firsts in one shoot! I give so much props to Tyler. I was clearing nervous and had no idea where to shoot or how to pose him, but he was chill and cruise the whole time. Even let me explore Chinatown with him, we both were pretty lost haha. I give all the credit of these photos to him!

Recently did a collab with my good friends Levi and Kiya. Here’s a sneak preview <3

Kierstin 02.03.13

Since I was renting the Canon 24-105mm L lens, I figured why not practice using it as a portrait lens? I wasn’t sure how it was going to go because I haven’t used a zoom lens (I only have a 85 & 35mm lenses), but I was pleasantly surprised! It helped that I had Kierstin as an awesome model. She’s so young and has a great attitude when it comes to getting that shot. I’m so happy that I finally found time to edit and finish these photos. I hope they’re starting to reflect where I want to go with fashion photography.

Finally getting time to spend with these photos. I’m editing as fast as I can. I’ll share more. Promise <3

Sunday, Fun day

Sunday, fun day! I couldn’t have asked for a better day =)

On this lovely Sunday, some of the girls from gg (grace group) and I woke up early (yes, 8:30am is early) to listen to guest speaker, John Bevere, speak. Oh, and he spoke. He preached about God’s grace like I’ve never heard it spoken about before and it really stuck with me. If you haven’t heard or read any of his books before (I haven’t either), you should check him out! We can dive deeper into God together!

After service, the girls had the awesome idea to go to Gyu-kaku for lunch during happy hour. If you’ve never heard of Gyu-kaku before, there are a few locations on the island of Oahu, but we love to go to the Kapiolani one. Gyu-kaku is a Japanese BBQ restaurant where you cook the food! It’s actually really fun and extremely tasty. They even have non-grilling menu items that can compete with their meats! You’ll see what I’m talking about as you keep scrolling. (disclaimer: you might start drooling)

First though, we got to Gyu-kaku a little early, so we decided to check out the shops around it and stepped into this little store. I wish I caught the name because it has really great stuff (that can eat a chunk out of your wallet). Nonetheless, the store clerk welcomed us and didn’t mind that we were just killing time. It’s a great thing that I’m on a budget or else I’d be out of money after walking to that store ^^

Finally, Gyu-kaku opened and we walked our empty, ready tummies into heaven. I already can’t wait to go back and try the new foods we had today :3

The dressing room looked like a shower, so Richelle wanted to try ^^

The store had the cutest little plant in its window, and naturally I took a picture of it..

I’m awkward. I know.

Lovin’ her nails.

I’m slightly obsessed with her tattoo.

Richelle is too! =)

I also had a photoshoot today, but those photos will come later. That was my Super Bowl Sunday! How did  you all spend yours?

Acai bowls and lens rentals..

Today on the blog…

This is more of a personal post than a professional one. Starting today I’m renting 2 Canon L lenses! I’m super stoked hehe ^^ One is the 24-105mm f4 lens and the other is the 70-200mm f2/8 lens. Both are supposed to be high end, quality, fast lenses (hence the L, for luxury, so I’ve heard anyway.) I will be photographing my first wedding in a month and I knew I was going to need more than the lens I currently have (35mm f2, and 85mm f1.8). I decided that I wanted to rent these two L lenses because they will most likely be the lens I will rent and use for the wedding.

Since Hawaii Photo Rental (the place I’m renting from) is located in Kaimuki, I decided that I should make the best of that trip and invited my friends to join me! We picked up the lenses in Kaimuki and zipped on down to Bogart’s Cafe in Waikiki for some awesome acai bowls. If you’ve never had acai bowl before or have seen acai bowls but not tasted them before, you should absolutely give it a try. I used to never eat acai bowls (I’m literally the most unhealthy person you’ll meet :P), but my friends ate them all the time. Finally, after much begging, they convinced me to try it and I fell in love. Now I eat acai bowls as often as I can. My friends and I even make them whenever we don’t feel like driving anywhere haha.

The photos below are just us fooling around. We always have a good time together. These are my best friends from high school and I’ve missed them since school has started to get hectic. I’m glad we all got to get together and enjoy some time away from homework, studying, and the rush of everyday life. Thanks for coming out with me today guys :)

A re-edit of Melia. She moved to Colorado recently so for now this is the last you will be seeing her on the blog. Miss you!

First family portraits!

Almost a month ago, I had my first ever family portrait shoot! I’m sad it’s taken me so long to finish editing and blogging them, but this last holiday season was jam packed with personal things for me. My parents and I moved! Which took 2 weeks longer than anticipated and we’re still not finished putting away everything, but I can’t wait until everything’s in order. I might even post some photos of the house here ;) Anyways, I’m so glad that I got to meet this beautiful family! Believe it or not, I found them on craigslist looking for a photographer to take their vacation photos and in exactly the area that I live in. It was God sent :) Anyways, please take a look at the photos from the session below! I’d  love to hear any comments that you have: sarah.jual@gmail.com  :)

Sorry I’ve been so inactive lately! A lot has happened within this month and it has kept me away from my photography. But no fear, I’ll be back :)

Selfie.
